I was fortunate to provide music for this video by the San Francisco AIDs foundation. The Huffington Post ran a story on the video a few weeks ago. Check that out here.

Great Divide / Third Ward Records

Had a great week in Milwaukee doing the majority of the tracking for a new record from Chicago band The Great Divide. We had a wonderful experience working at Third Ward Records, a fantastic studio with an unbelievable selection of toys for us kids to play with.

Oh Hello

There is a lot happening as the spring winds it’s way around this year. I am in the Middle of co-producing a new record for Daniel and The Lion with Darren Garvey at The Midwest Sound. Justin Perkins will be mixing/mastering for us and you should be hearing something by the middle of May. I have also been busy recording new instrumental pieces for videos and doing various other sessions. I will post some new audio over at The Midwest Sound site soon. We have had a great run of shows with Miles Nielsen and The Rusted Hearts these past couple months and have a lot coming up over the summer. I will be continuing to add dates over the next few weeks. Cheers!

UNDEFEATED wins an Academy Award!

Thrilled to say that UNDEFEATED won the Oscar for documentary feature of the year last night. What an amazing evening. Miles and I wrote and recorded original music for the film. Pictured is us and our attorney Michael Schirger, who has been our behind-the-scenes third member of the operation. We owe him an awful lot of gratitude.
I am so honored to have been a part of making this film. The film will roll out to theaters the next few weeks in many cities nation-wide. Go give it a gander.

Undefeated scores an Oscar Nomination

I am unbelievably excited and proud to announce that Undefeated has been nominated by the Academy for Documentary Feature of the Year. Miles and I wrote and recorded a lot of music for the film, which will be released in theaters February 17th in NY and LA and March 3rd in many other markets.

The Midwest Sound

A few of us have slowly and quietly been building a studio space in a farm house. Now, it’s pretty much complete. We are calling it The Midwest Sound.

Francis goes solo, amongst other things.

As usual there is a lot going. First off, back in August Darren Garvey and I recorded some tunes for fun one night and now they have surfaced in the public forum under the name “Francis Goes Solo” Read more and listen here.

Undefeated is continuing to gain momentum. It has won numerous awards in the film festival circuit and has made the short list of Oscar nominations. Miles, I and everyone involved are pretty excited to see how everything unfolds with it all over the next couple months.

The madison publication Isthmus awarded “Sweet Teeth” by Daniel and The Lion album of the year for 2011. I’m proud to have produced the record with Jimmie and Daniel. My boy Justin Perkins mixed and mastered it.

A small group of us have put together a new recording space in the Rockford region. Things are really shaping up there. Should make for a very productive winter. A lot more on that very soon.

Check out the dates page for shows with Miles Nielsen over the next few months.
Have a great holiday!
